Are us americans spending to much soldiers on our soldiers?

Alright i was looking at all these different soldiers and most of them had high amounts of gear and optics (expensive) even the airforce had lots of gear just for guarding a base....im convinced that one soldier that could die or be KIA'ed might of had lots of money on his equipment or if he got roadside bombed by those iraqi son of a bitches like what happened to my cousin 3 weeks ago.
