To all Americans - interested in your opinion?

I'm 17 and don't know too much. But yes, fear is a major player in politics and the media only helps to aggravate that fear. And the bitter thing will probably continue considering the pessimistic view a lot of America holds. Racism is a problem in some places but probably not the leading cause behind the bitter tone of politics.
